Guanshan Town Circle Cycling Path

Measuring 12km, this is the oldest cycling path in Taiwan. The nearest entrance to the path is just 700m north of DriftnStay along country road E5. Cycling along the path, you will see lush rice paddies, laced with intertwining footpaths, that could be silver, green or golden in colour, depending on the season. You will also experience the distinctive rural ambience that is unique to Guanshan.

Mengzong Bamboo Forest and Guanshan Hongshi Trail

Located at Hongshi village at the junction of Guanshan Township and Haiduan Township, the Guanshan Hongshi Trail is one of the most scenic hiking routes in Eastern Taiwan. Entrance to the trail is a mere 3 minutes' drive from DriftnStay.

The first 10km stretch of the trail which leads uphill is marked by a profusion of trees and vegetations. There are also vantage points where you can see Chishang, Fuli and the entire Guanshan town. The Mengzong Bamboo Forest is located at about the 12.5km mark of the trail. For crowd control purposes, the Forestry Bureau has set up a motor vehicle check point at the 10km mark of the trail, from where you have to go to the forest on foot. However, this allows you to take in the spectacular views of the mountains near Motian and Yakou on the Southern Cross-Island Highway.

It is advisable to finish your hiking trip by 4:00pm when the staff at the check point go off duty.

Walami Trail

Located at Yushan National Park, Walami Trail forms parts of the eastern section of the historic Batongguan Traversing Trail. Walami Trail follows an exciting path through waterfalls, suspension bridges and other scenic spots. Entrance to the trail is about an hour's drive from DriftnStay. Prior to your hike, stop by the Nanon Visitor Centre to learn the history of the Batongguan Trail, and view the Nanon waterfall while you are there. Currently, pre-booking is not necessary for hiking along the first 4.5km stretch of the trail(ie. from the trailhead to Jiaxin). However, please note there may be rockfalls at about 3.1km into the trail, and the trail may close at short notice as a result. Shanfeng #2 Suspension Bridge is 1.7km from the trailhead. A round trip to view Shanfeng Waterfall and Shanfeng #2 Suspension Bridge will take about 1.5 hours.

Southern Cross-Island Highway - Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area

The Southern Cross-Island Highway, which was closed in 2009 due to Typhoon Morakot, is now fully re-opened.

The beautiful Xiangyang National Forest Recreation Area, located at about 149.1km along the Southern Cross-Island Highway, is about 2,300m to 2,800m above sea level and covers an area of 362 hectares. Driving there from DriftnStay will take about 1.5 hours. As the recreation area is undergoing maintenance, there is no accident insurance covers for visiting groups, and only the path leading to Jiaming Lake National Trail is open.
