A New Beginning

We fell in love with East Rift Valley when we first set foot here as tourists ten years ago. Driving along Provincial Highway No 9 between the Central Mountain and the Coastal Ranges, we were greeted by a sea of lush green fields, interspersed with criss-crossing footpaths, with soaring emerald hills on the horizon.

When unforeseen circumstances in our home city compelled us to seek a new life abroad, we decided on Taiwan, and in particular Guanshan, as the Eden in which to begin a new chapter in our lives.

Situated behind the Central Mountain Range, East Rift Valley is home to some truly spectacular rural landscapes which change with the times of the day as well as the seasons. Misty mornings turn into sunny afternoons; majestic waterfalls hidden amongst soaring rugged mountains; meandering rivers cutting through a plateau of paddy fields. At planting time, the flooded rice paddies resemble shiny lakes in which one can see clear reflections of the mountains and clouds above; later, the same fields are turned into seas of tall green grass, dancing and swaying in the wind; and at harvest they are transformed again, this time into fields of gold, echoing the colour of the setting sun.
